From sad, sick, and broke — to healthy, wealthy, and thriving.
My Origin Story
Hi, I’m Amanda — and chronic illness has been part of my story for most of my life. I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis at age 13 and chronic Lyme disease at age 25. It was the Lyme diagnosis (and the mysterious health crisis that preceded it) that finally showed me I had to live my life differently. To escape from mere survival and truly thrive, I had to put my health first.
Once I decided to put “Health First” at the core of everything I do, I realized I needed a way to work and make income that would fit with this philosophy. No more 40+ hour work weeks, no more stressful daily commute, no more monotonous, mindless, pointless work. I needed a career that allowed me to live life on my terms, work from home, work part-time or less hours, and make a decent income. I needed (a lot) less stress, more freedom, more rest, and more fulfillment.
Trying to fit myself into the corporate mold only led me to burnout, illness, and depression. So I started my own business as a freelance copywriter in 2020. And everything changed.
Becoming a Health First Freelancer
I started my business in June 2020, and by the end of the year I had a proper side hustle on my hands. By April 2021, I was doing well enough physically and financially to move into my dream apartment. By September of that year, I quit my part-time proofreading job and went full-time in my business (still working 25 hours or less per week of course). And I’ve never looked back since.
In 2023, I hit 6 figures in yearly revenue while still maintaining a Health First lifestyle. I feel better than I ever have, more financially secure, more fulfilled in my work, and still so excited for what’s to come.
So I thought, what better time than now to bring together other folks with chronic illness who want to build the same type of Health First business that I have?
Are you meant to be a Health First Freelancer?
You know health is your #1 priority
Your health is important to you, probably because you have a chronic illness you need to manage or even overcome. Health first, everything else second. (Because everything’s better when you feel better.)
You want freedom & flexibility
It’s not just health, you want the freedom to work and live on your own terms, and the flexibility to adapt to whatever life throws your way. And hey, a decent paycheck wouldn’t hurt either.
You’re open to the possibilities
Becoming a freelancer might feel daunting, but you’re open to the idea. In fact, you’re ready for a paradigm shift in the right direction. You can see the vision, now it’s time to make it happen.
